Far West Texas is, historically, cattle country.  It isn't unusual to find families still ranching the land their ancestors settled in the 1800's.

"Calves are just cute," Severns says. "As practical a profession as ranching is, no real cowboy can see a newborn calf without smiling.  And the mother cows are so protective, it's sometimes hard to get a good view of the calf. The soft spring sunrise added to the feeling of entering a nursery."
